Skills Development Program (SDP)

How it started?

Suggestions were forwarded by different programs of PEF from time to time to lay emphasis on the need of a skill based program for our partner school students to empower them and give them a choice for further education.

In this regard, a symposium titled “Public-Private Partnership in Vocational Training – A New Paradigm” was conducted on 15th of January, 2011 to explore the potential in this avenue. The symposium got a phenomenal response and served as a launching pad for the Skills Development Program (SDP).

Start on?

Continuing the legacy, the innovative initiative of Skills Development Program (SDP) was taken by Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) in 2011 for the provision of vocational trainings to the students.

Punjab Education Foundation’s (PEF) initiative of Skills Development Program (SDP) has received a warm welcome by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), Government, Public and Private Sector.

Under this program, skills based trainings are given along with basic education to the PEF partner school students aged 14 and above. The trainings are provided in collaboration with prestigious public and private training institutions to ensure the provision of quality trainings.

Our belief:

Vocational education is in no way different or inferior to basic education. In fact it is a part of wholesome education. If we have to grow as a nation, we need to focus on both the basic as well as vocational education. This will lead to recognition of skills, economic empowerment and selection of the right career path.

Where are we today?

Skills Development Program (SDP) has entered into contracts with some of the best training institutions/ organizations to impart vocational training to the students. Our focus is the provision of the right tools and the right facility to the students to learn, grow and get enlightened.

From March 2011 till date, 427 students of 19 partner schools in 3 districts i.e. Lahore, Sialkot, and Faisalabad got training in different vocational trades.

The response received has proven that the program bears a lot of latent potential yet to be unfolded.

How are we different?

Our Skills Development Program (SDP) is different from the others Vocational Training Programs in several ways:

  • Early exposure to vocational training along with basic education
  • Provision of trainings in line with the industrial requirements.
  • Job placement for alumini’s (if and when required)
  • Provision of Travelling Allowance
  • Training conduction through Public & Private Training Institutions
  • Sharing a career path with trainees to enable them to make better decisions for future education
